Power Up Problem Samsung TV

So I have a 40" Samsung TV. Sometime weeks ago I went to turn on the TV with the remote and it did not fire up. On inspection it was noted that the red standby light was not on. I tried power resets to no avail. I thought it was cooked. I left it unplugged overnight and it was fine the next day. The TV was fine for several weeks. But yesterday I had the same problem. I noticed that if I disconnected the power chord from the back of the TV and then plugged it straight back the red light would come on; but on pressing the remote on button the red light goes on but there is nothing on the TV screen. I try pressing the remote power button again (to put it in to standby) but it does not respond. The only way I can get the red light to come back on is by disconnecting and reconnecting the power chore from the back of the TV. Any ideas please?
