I'm afraid this won't help much, but I just got Internet access over a cable modem. It's all digital, multiplexed with the analog TV signals. The modem is simulating a LAN on your computer, and you have to have Windows set up correctly for it to work. If your cable provider doesn't have a modem set up page you can try mine: www.support.cebridge.net , they have a list and pictures of the various windows settings. They also have detailed setup information for running two computers via a router. As far as the modem is concerned I don't know for sure what's in it, but I do know it has a hardware encoded IP address, and you have to call your cable provider to enable this address, there is instructions on the above site on how to use the ipconfig command in windows dos box. If you're having problems with the cable modem, it's very important to re-boot the modem after you change setups, you do this by unplugging the power supply into the cable modem and leaving it disconnected for 2 minutes. When you plug it in again the modem will reboot itself and is suppose to configure itself for the network your using. There are two way's these devices connect to your PC, one uses the Ethernet connection to the network controller card in your PC. The connectors on this connection look like enlarged telephone plugs. The other method uses a USB connection to your computer and windows is suppose to auto detect the device, but for this method to work you have to have a driver CD from the cable company. I'm still learning about this system myself, I wish I could be of more help, and if you have more questions you can reach me at: 1whitedove@cebridge.net Regards, William
