Thanks for the attention.

Ive only got three questions in this kind of System.

1.how to connect the Cable modem Termination system to the combiner.(i mean its physical connections)

2.Can you explain the path of the return signals.

3.can return signals pass through TAPS,SPLITTERS and into the COMBINER.

I'm afraid this won't help much, but I just got Internet access over a cable modem. It's all digital, multiplexed with the analog TV signals. The modem is simulating a LAN on your computer, and you have to have Windows set up correctly for it to work. If your cable provider doesn't have a modem set up page you can try mine: www.support.cebridge.net , they have a list and pictures of the various windows settings. They also have detailed setup information for running two computers via a router. As far as the modem is concerned I don't know for sure what's in it, but I do know it has a hardware encoded IP address, and you have to call your cable provider to enable this address, there is instructions on the above site on how to use the ipconfig command in windows dos box. If you're having problems with the cable modem, it's very important to re-boot the modem after you change setups, you do this by unplugging the power supply into the cable modem and leaving it disconnected for 2 minutes. When you plug it in again the modem will reboot itself and is suppose to configure itself for the network your using. There are two way's these devices connect to your PC, one uses the Ethernet connection to the network controller card in your PC. The connectors on this connection look like enlarged telephone plugs. The other method uses a USB connection to your computer and windows is suppose to auto detect the device, but for this method to work you have to have a driver CD from the cable company.

I'm still learning about this system myself, I wish I could be of more help, and if you have more questions you can reach me at:

thanks for the information.Actually im already familiar with tcp/ip,NAT configuration.in fact,i ve setup servers and routers in some internet cafe's here.what i really need is a technical info 'bout the transmission and reception of data and the physical connections of the CMTS.Im planning to design a two-way CATV system with internet as the added service aside from tv channels.

by the way, thank for your effort to answer my querry.good day.

Okay, I have a bit for you. Sorry for the delay. First of all, I got in your last message that you are attempting to complete this type of setup on your own? Well, in our system, the return path is transmitted at 22 mhz. The return passes through all taps and splitters into the combiner, but in our system we have power inserters in the main feeder line. So, the thing you have to consider when thinking about modems is that the average modem can only spit out about 40-50 dBmV before it won't make it back to the nearest power inserter. Am I making sense?

Ok I set Cable systems up every day for HSD or Cable Modem's. In order for they system to work you must have a return path between 5hmz and 40mhz from the customers home to the headend. In most systems this is a unity gain system (what you put in is what you get out) This allows for you to set attenuation in the headend to insure that all modems are running at near the same return level.

Often times it depends on your headend configuration as to how and where you will connect your CMTS to your system.
