Unlocking Converter Box Can't Post

Hello, I recently purchased a used motorola DCT22241661ACDEG form Ebay very cheap to put in my daughter room. I am a subscriber to digital cable through Cox Com. They wanted to charge me an extra $6.00 a month on top what I pay them for an additional box to rent. So I figured if I buy one I would save some $$$. I called Cox to unlock the box or at leat to register it, the tech said there nothing he can do for me. I noticed there is a data port on the back of the box. Is there a way to get it to work with Cox signal?

Thank you

That could largely depend on wether or not the box is stolen. Did you buy it with a non-theft guarantee?

Thank you for your reply. All I was told is to register it with my local provider.

Well, I know with Comcast there is no "customer owned converter box" charge. They only have a "customer owned modem" charge. Cox is probably the same way. The "unlocking" process is simply applying the cable box "GI" number to the "CSG" of the cable system. Then the cable system sends out the "unlocking" or activating HIT. So, in short, I think you might have gotten suckered. I don't know of a cable system that allows the customer to purchase and own his or her own box at no additional charge. I hope this was of some help to you.

Thank you for the info. I should have done my homework before buying . But thank goodness it was not a whole lot of $$ . All I have now is a box in my garage collecting dust.
