digital cable box Can't Post

If I were to buy a digital cable box on ebay would it work with my subscribed digital cable? I have mediacom and it sucks, but i still wonder if I would have to buy one from mediacom or if any digital cable box would work

Thanks

99.999% No

When you get a cable box, it is rented from the cable company, if people are selling them, that means they are selling the cable companies equipment.

The biggest reason is the PowerKey, the little piece of software that unscrambles the digital stations. Each cable system, even if they are owned by the same company, uses different keys for different areas.

Also, the boxes are loaded with software to run on a specific cable system they are to be used in. I live and work in North Eastern Wisconsin, if I were to take a cable box from my house and go to Milwaukee, which is also Time Warner, the box wouldn't work at all because it's not in their system, and the box isn't setup to run on Milwaukee's cable system.

If you are looking for a digital box to add, I would just recommend getting one from the your cable company.
I work for Time Warener Cable, and have been on the field for some time. I try to help out when I can!
