The box is referred to as a NID or network interface device. It is also the RDP or Demarkation point between your in-house coax and the cable plant. Every thing after that point is yours. There should be a small door that is opened with a screw driver that should house a splitter or ground block. This is the location that you will run your new line to and install a splitter for your additional outlets.

That is a locking terminator that locks the cable company side of the cable box. You do not have access to that side of the box. If there is a small door on the box that opens with a screw you can acess the customer portion there. If no you do not have access. If you do not have access you can run your new outlet to the box and install a splitter on the outside or contact your cable company to run it in the box once you have it run.
