1 Receiver not working??? Can't Post

I got 2 receivers from a friend and I hooked up my own dish. Dialed in a 93-94 signal and the one receiver works fine. The receiver that works, is an older Hughes box. The other receiver is a D10. This receiver just says "searching for signal" when i hook it up. Both of these receivers work fine at my friends house. Why would only one work at my place? Is there more to setting up the dish than just getting a great signal like I have? Can someone explain the whole transponder thing? Am I doing something wrong in setting up the dish?

If one receiver works, then switch with the other one at same location. If both work at that location then the problem is with the other coax.

Do you have a lnb with two separate coax lines running into the house without any kind of splitter?

Re: [TANK1] 1 Receiver not working??? [In reply to] Can't Post

Right now I just have one line running into the house. I am testing both boxes on the same line by switching them out. Once I know both boxes work, i'll run the other line. Last night I tested them again. The Hughes box works perfect. 94 signal on both both satellites. When I hook up the D10 box, I get a 94 signal on one of the satellites and no signal on the other satellite. Is the D10 just more sensitive to satellite position? I'm worried if I adjust the dish to get the d10 receiver working, it may cause the Hughes receiver to not work.

First if you are getting 94 on the d10 that is good for that sat.

What 2nd sat are you trying to get?Are you using a single round sat dish or oval 3 lnb dish? If you are using a oval sat dish did you go into the D10's set up menu and tell the receiver that you are using a oval-3lnb dish instead og the regular round one?

no, i'm using a singe round dish. the hughes receiver picks up sat 101 & 110 i believe, and the signals are at 94. this receiver works great and i get all channels that i am supposed to. when i hook up the d10 receiver to the same cable, it only sees one of those sats. there is no signal for the other sat. so i only get certain channels, i guess just the ones that are coming from the sat that it is locked to. channels like hbo don't work. the receiver just says it's looking for a signal when i change to one of those channels. why can one receiver have such a good lock on both sats and the other receiver only lock to one?

Like Tank said, go into the menu of the d10, and make sure it is set for a round dish, if it is on any other dish type you will have problems, if it is not the type of dish you are using.
and if you are using a round dish you will only get signal from one sat at a time, so in your case you should be pointing at 101 only.

Sorry last post just gave the quote and not my response.

Check signal strength on transponder 32.That has HBO on it.Check both receivers.

Both should be 80 or higher. If they are and the D10 still gives you searching for sat signal,do a hard reboot. Unplug the electric cord and coax, phoneline, all other cables and let overnight.

If you still have the problem call Directv and ask them to reboot the access card info.

I guess i need a lesson on dtv for dummies. [In reply to] Can't Post

So i'm using a singe lnb round dish with two coaxials coming out and going into a rca multi receiver box which allows 4 receivers to be hooked up. The one receiver that I have hooked up right now has setting for single, dual, or triple dish. It is set at triple therefore I have signals on satellite 101, 119, 110. All channels work great. Once in awhile the box will say that it is looking for a signal. If it HBO that I am trying to watch, I will go and look to see if there is a signal on sat 110, and there won't be. Sometimes if I switch to another transponder, the signal will lock up. Are you guys saying that i should be set to single dish? I thought I tried that and I didn't get channels like HBO because I assume they are coming off of sat 110? I guess I don't understand how the whole thing works. If someone could give me a quick lesson on the different sats and what the transponders setting are for, I would appreciate it.

Ok first the 18" round dish with a single lnb only gets one sat at 101.It should have 2 coax lines from the single lnb.

You should run each coax directly to your sat receivers. One to the hughes and the other to the D10.Bypass that RCA box that's proably where your problem is.

The satellite has 32 transponders on it.When you do the signal strength test, one or two transponders might only read 30 or 0,they are spot beams.Think of a spotbeam as flashlight beam shining down on the floor. The area of the floor that the light shines on is the coverage area.If you live outside the area you won't get a signal.Spot beams are only used for local channels. So if you don't lose any channels because the one on the spot beams are for anyway. The spot beam your local channels are on will read 80 or higher.

The rest are CONUS signals they are like a bright fllod light that covers the whole USA.All channels except some locals are on CONUS.

All SD (strandard def/analog signal) channels are on the 101 sat.

The other two sats 119 and 110 have international programming,High Defination channels on them. To get the sats at 119 and 110 you need a oval sat dish with 3 lnbs. Each lnb is for a different satellite.

Bypass that Rca box and you should have no more problems.

thanks again. i set the Hughes receiver to a single lnb and it works fine. 94 signal strength. the d10 receiver still won't work. sometimes i can get it to find a good signal but then when i go to a channel, it can't find the signal. this box works fine at my friends house. it doesn't make sense, unless the d10 is much more sensitive than the Hughes receiver.

Did you by pass the RCA box and connect directly to the D10?
