2 Addresses & 2 Dish - Question Can't Post

I have direct tv and have local channels at home but have 2 dishes so the locals come from a different satilite. My question is my parents live in a different state and have a vacation home about 150 miles from their home. At their vacation home we have a dish and I took my receiver and hooked it up and we get channels however we do not get the locals from my home area because the locals use a seperate satilite from my home. Direct told me I would not be able to get local channels unless I get another dish. So I assume I need another dish pointing in a different direction to get locals and I assume I will get the locals from my home are which is about 300 miles away, am I correct? Do I have to have a switch to hook 2 dishes to one receiver?
So I called direct and asked them about local channels in my parents home town and they told me I only need one dish with a dual lnb to get locals in that area. Do you think if I sign my parents up for an account and they take their receiver to the vacation home with one dish (dual lnb) we should be able to get thier locals? It is about 150 miles apart. Do you need a dual lnb to get locals?
Thanks for the help.

Re: [Paid Up] 2 Addresses & 2 Dish - Question [In reply to] Can't Post

Your request is very confusing for me to understand. If I misunderstood your questions- I'm sorry and will be happy to help you.

Your local channels must be on the sat at 72.5 and that is the reason for the second sat dish. That sat ( 72.5 ) is located outside the sight lines of the other sats Directv uses.

Your parents locals are on the sats that can be seen with a single dish and a dual lnb. Did you try your parents receiver at the vaction home ?
Are you trying to get your locals at the vaction home or your parent's local channels ?

Some zip codes of your address and parents home and vaction home would be useful .

Tank - Thanks for the reply.
My parents do not have Direct yet. I am trying to figure out if what we want to do will work. In Jacksonville, Fl (zip 32256) you only need one satellite dish to get local channels and the others. My current account in rural Georgia you have to have 2 dishes in order to get locals.
So if my parents get direct in Jacksonville (zip 32256) with one dish (dual LNB) and get a dish for their vacation home (dual LNB) at zip code 32359 will the box pick up local channels? Meaning if they open an account in zip code 32256 do you think they can take their reciever to zip code 32359 and get the local channels?

Re: [Paid Up] 2 Addresses & 2 Dish - Question [In reply to] Can't Post

Local channels are broadcast by Directv in what is called spot beam areas. These are circles on the map ( think of a flashlight pointed down at a map ) , if you are inside the area you get a signal and if you are outside you get a message from Directv but no signal and no local channels.
The spot beam area for Jax might go over to the Gulf Coast but the zip code Steinhatchee, FL 32359-3100 is for Tallahassee FL locals.

Seems Tallahassee locals go down to both Taylor and Dixie counties on the Gulf Coast, so I doubt the JAX spot beam will go that far west.

Since your parents live in JAX FL that would give them the JAX locals and I used the size of that spot beam to determine if they could could still receive the signal on the gulf coast in their vacation home.
