Accessing PVR after leaving DTV?

because of budget constraints, we have let our DTV subscription go for a while. We have a number of movies that I recorded in a binge onto the PVR before the subscription lapsed. Is there any way to access these movies? or does the cable card contain info that kills access to the box?
