DTV in South America Question - Help Needed

I pay for DTV in USA and also at my condo in South America, fully legit.
I have brought a USA based receiver/card with me to my condo in Medellin Colombia and swapped it out with the one I pay for, my goal is to just enjoy the USA programming & sports I pay for up there when I am here every other month, it is hockey & basketball playoff time :-)
The swap out has not been successful, I thought it would work seemlessly, hahaha. All I get on the screen is "searching for satellite" I am assuming my USA receiver/card is pegged to a certain satellite that serves USA and my dish here in SA is pegged to another, and that all I need to do is figure out the direction I need to point my SA dish to to hit the USA satellite.
Can anyone help me or set me straight that it would be impossible?
