DirecTV Scam Can't Post

I recently had a satellite installed through Verizon. I was specifically told that the contract or the commitment will be for one year (12 months), and that if I pay the DVR for $99, I will be getting a rebate form for $100. I never did receive a rebate form, so I telephoned the customers services department at DirecTV to inquire about it. I was told for the very first time that in order for me to keep the DVR, I will have to have a two years (24 months) commitment. I was never told that there was a two year commitment involved until now. They also told me on the telephone that if and when I do not wish to keep the DVR, I should just call them again, and they would arrange to have it ship back to DirecTV, and there will be no further charge to me. I have a strong feeling that when I return the DVR, they would still charge me an arm and a leg. I wonder how many other people they had scammed! Sincerely, Henry

Henry,

I wouldn't exactly call it a scam but verizon failed to mention some very important details of your contract.....not very ethical of them.
Grab the literature that Direct TV puts out and all that information is there. Sadly, some companies like Verizon and Best Buy just don't tell you about these things unless you ask. They did the same thing to my aged mother and tried to do it to me too. I had read Direct TVs literature and Best Buy only admitted the extra charges and such when I directly asked about them. If I had not asked, they were not telling.
Take it back and demand your money be refunded. If they give you any trouble contact your local Better Business Office and file a formal complaint against Verizon for misleading you.

Sorry I forgot to mention that the rebate form is probably online. Verizon should be able to give you the web address to print it out and send it or submit it online.

Good Luck

Forget about the rebate, just cancel all of my services with Directv and I will be glad to pay for any penalty, whatever charges imposed. But that was what they had to say:
Dear Mr. C,

Thanks for writing us back. I understand your concern, however, please understand that we have some guidelines to follow to be able to close your account. I have re-forwarded your message to our specialists and let them know you are waiting for them to contact you.

Thanks again for your continued patience.

and of course, they never did call me or anything. I feel like I am being hijacked for the next several months until I get back to the states.

Well they told me that they would exchange my HR-10 DVR for a new one when the new boxes came out because there combatible with the new satallites, now there saying I can lease one and sign a new 2 year contract.I told them then( 1.5 years ago 400 dollars) I was going to take the hr-10 back but they assured me they would swap it.They lied and I am not happy.
