Direct TV and Tailgating Can't Post

I do not currently have Direct TV in my home. I have no desire to have it in my home. However, I am trying to find some information in order to determine the possibility of obtaining Direct TV for my tailgate. Is it possible to get Direct TV, the equipment (receiver, dish, tripod) and bring it out to a tailgate spot and set it up every saturday. We have a lot of people in our tailgate so we are willing to pay for a year of service only to use it 7 saturdays in the fall. However, no one wants to hook up Direct TV at their house. Is this even possible? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

The problem you are going to run into is that now all new Directv systems include basic installation.Since none of you want the system installed at your houses, that is your problem.

To get around this problem you could

1- Try and find someone to sell you a new system without installation.

2- Buy a tripod ( you will need this to tailgate anyway) and have the dish installed on the tripod in your back yard.Have a tv out back to connect the reciever up to.Tell the installer you just want to watch tv out back.

This should be no problem because the installer still gets his money from Directv and also gets a easy install.

we used to take our standard definition direct TV box to our boat where we had a dish set up on a piling to get the signal from the satelite. It worked fine and there is no reason why it will not work for you on a tripod. If you set the tripod up and keep the up down setting all you will need do is rotate the dish side to side to get the signal each time you use it.
Direct tv has no way to know (nor does it care) where you use your box so long as you pay for your subscription and you only need plug into a phone line when using Pay per view. We have even taken ours on cruises and we simply set up each evening, took 5 minutes to get a signal from sat 101 or 110 I forget which satelite now.
Setting up a single satelite reciever dish is not hard to do at all. The satelite reciever gives you a general direction based on the zip code where you are as an aid to begin your search and also beeps at different tones to tell you if you are getting close. Things are only hard if you are too scared to try and do them.
