Direct Tv and Travel Can't Post

I will be traveling with my rv this summer, I have replaced a few regular recievers with Tivo units so I intend to activate one of the old ones and use it in the RV.. My question is this I currently subscribe to "LOCAL" channels and recieve them just fine at home, when I relocate the rv what "LOCAL" coverage will I get? I suspect I will get the same as I get at home and not what is actually local to the area I am parked at.

Your local channels are on a spot beam from the satellite.Which gives a limited access area, once you leave that area, you lose the local channels. You get still get all your other channels while traveling.

You can call Directv and ask for a "Rv Waiver" which will give you the big 4 networks from NYC.You need to send them some information first before they issue the waiver,so allow enough time before you start traveling,to acquire the waiver.

I don't know what exact info they need.

Tank... What am I not understanding here?... Would my dish not be pointing at the same satellite? Are you saying that the local channels are beamed into a much narrower corridor... the Tx footprint for them being somehow reduced?

Seems it would really be hard for them to use one satellite for all the different patterns they would need.

Local channels use a spot beam, which is like pointing a flashlight down towards the ground. The round area that is lighted up is the coverage area.If you stay inside that area you will still get your local channels.

The other channels are sent down to huge area that covers the whole USA.

What state and city are you getting your locals from?
