Getting another states local channels? Can't Post

My sister who lives in Texas once told me that she could call up her provider, I think it's DirectTV, and ask for the day or the weekend to recieve the local channels of another state. Is that still a possibility?

If I want to watch locally broadcast sports games/teams from another market(I live in North Carolina and I'd love to get Massachusetts channels), can I call DirectTV and have them switch me to those local stations for the weekend or day?

No you can not.
I am a Directv sub for 9 years and you could never do that.
Local channels are on spot beams ( the beam only covers the area of the tv market) and the rest are on CONUS ( the beam covers the whole USA and AK, HI )
So the Boston spot beam would not reach NC.

I don't suppose you know if Dish networks or something like that offers what I'm looking for? I'm ready to make the jump to satellite because I'm just so fed up with the cable companies offerings...but I just watch to watch my home town NFL games without having to get the NFL sunday ticket...i don't need 16 games a week, just 1 or 2.

No you can't do it with DISH either for the same reasons.
You must pay for NFL Sunday Ticket if you want out of market games.
Since you are considering sat service. The difference between the two is mostly programming.

Directv has all the sports you want to PAY for.

Dish has more movies and more HD right now, Directv will catch up in HD this year.
