HD DVR Can't Post

Going to upgrade to a DVR and decided to go to the HD unit (for future use). However, my current dish is a single LMB with one feed wire. I realize I will not get much HD tv but will upgrade my dish later this year after new sat comes online and the RV industry starts supplying compatable dishes. I am using this unit in a Motorhome. My question is: I need two feeds to the DVR so what is the best way to do that. I have been reading the TiVo forums about multiswitches and I am not sure I understand what they are saying. They never mention a one feed system, always a two or more feed set ups therefore, I am confused as to what I actually need to complete this hook-up. Does anybody know what I need to hook up the DirectTV HD-DVR at a reasonable cost?

The new 5lnb HD sat dishs have 4 coax lines already straight from the dish.

The old single lnd sat dishs either had a single or dual coax lines. The single were of the real early ones.

Another option is to replace the lnb with one with two coax lines out. It is very simple to switch one out with out moving the dish.
Just remove the srews holding the lnb in place and remove it. Disconnect the coax cable . Run a second coax line up to the new lnb next to old coax line. Now you have two coax lines, connect them to the new lnb. Slide the new lnf into place and screw tightly.

Since you need two for a dvr to work, you need a multiswitch which takes one or two in and gives you 4 or 8 out.

The new HD sat dish requries a certain multiswitch , so if add a basic multiswitch today. You will need to replace it when you upgrade to the 5lnb HD sat dish.

I would suggest calling Directv and asking about the movers program to upgrade your system. Since you seem to be a longtime sub they would use that program to upgrade your dish to 5lnb for free. You still pay for the HD DVR.

From what you are saying, I do need a multiswitch now and a different one later on. Do you know witch one would be best for this application now? Just need one that would work, nothing fancy as it will be replaced down the road.
Thanks for you input.

Sorry I just double checked and a dvr will not work with the old single lnb and a multiswitch.

You need at least a dual lnb with the 18" round dish.

Since are going to upgrade to HD , why just get 5 lnb HD sat dish installed now. That is proably the easiest or add the dual lnb to your old sat dish.
