Is my system getting old? Can't Post

I have been having a problem when I change channels it can take up to 30 or more seconds for the picture to come in. I have unplugged like I was told to do but that isn't helping.
Just wondering if maybe things are just wearing out. We were one of the impatient one who couldn't wait a while and paid $800 for our dish years ago. I get a good signal and everything else seems fine but changing channels is a pain when you have to wait so long.......is there anything I could try to fix it or would new be the only way? Thank you Janet

I have no idea if its getting old but a new one from Direct Tv it self is only $49 and they will let you make payments on it and it can be billed to your account. They ship really fast to. They ship fed ex 2nd day :)

Well, since the hometown place that I had bought my dish from had gone out of business, I found that Radio Shack took over their dish business.
I had, had enough when so many times I was getting a black screen and delays in changing channels. I went up there and told them my problem and they said it was the box for sure. So I bought one. I got it for $29.95 but had to pay a $21 a year maintainance fee......I never get one of those and have never been dissapointed, the only thing I have had to replace in almost 10 years of having the dish is the remote for $19.....anyway. I bring it home and hook it up.
I thought everything would be just great. I do get my channels in faster but that thing ate the settings on my tv, we had gotten used to the commercials being a little louder but now when we change channels we are either blasted out of our seats or have to turn up the volume. We have a farily new tv.
Is the behavior of the reciever or did I get a bad one?
I absolutly hate the black screen TVs and always will I cuss for about 3 weeks with a new tv till I get things set right. That black no matter what anyone says is not better on the eyes and looks like everything is in a black room with someone shining a flashlight on them.....
Thanks for any info on the behavior of the new reciever.....Janet

One more question.
I am told that there is a new satellite going up soon, and that will mean that more people will get local channels.
I live in northern Nebraska, what they call local channel is Omaha about 200 miles away. To us that is about as local as Denver. What I was wondering if that is the only "local" channel we can get we won't lose our feeds from the national channels will we? It is not an either or thing? I have watched NY, NBC for so many years that it seems local to me. If I can get the Sioux City channels that would be different.
Thanks Janet
