Negotiating addtl line installations- new customer offers? Can't Post

Hi- we have one tv on DTV- and have 3 others on cable. We see these great offers to new customers and want to take advantage of these- we thought about cancelling that one tv and then trying again but not sure if this would work (? question?).

Wanted to know if anyone has successfully extended their DTV contract with some goodies - we would like to avoid paying for installation of the 2nd and 3rd tv, and why not- get afree premium movie deal for a while.. there are some really great deals for new customers..

we'd appreciate your help, laura

In Directv's eyes, you are only a new customer once.

If you have fulfilled your one commmittment to Directv, you can cancel your service and another member of the family can become a new customer.

Since you want 3 more receivers, starting a new account is your best choice.

If you have a credit card with your maiden name on it.

They go by the social security you gave for the account holder.

If the account is in your name, you can cancel service and open an new account in someone else's name. They need a credit card and social security number.

So is it a "profven method": to cancel dtv- then have my husband (issue may be is he has same last name though dif. social and credit card #) sign up again- I don;t mind the lag in service but I'd like to know if this works - many thanks for your prompt useful replies- looking fortward to this one as well laura

Laura,

I have never done it,but have read where other people have.

Just look at it from Directv's side

1-You are committed for 1 year

2-extra receiver fees from the 3 extra receivers

If anyone asks, just tell your husband to say you moved and took the Directv with you.

I suggest that you call them and tell them that you have a great offer from a competitor i.e. Dish for new customers that includes free installation and that you would like to see if they can offer you a similar deal. Odds are they will offer you free installation and equipment for your other tvs rather than lose you as a customer.

I did this with a DVR and got one.
