No telephone line question - Direct TV DVR Can't Post
Ok i dont have a telephone line in my house...cell phone only.

I have read that the telephone line is not required and that that is just Direct TV dribble?

In order to activate do I have to have a hard line. I know they say you have to have a phone line in order to record on a DVR and that without it the DVR will only pause and rewind.

1) Can i activate my receivers at a friends house that has direct tv in order to enable recording on the DVR. Will it be able to tell if I activate on my friends. Will this work?

2) Do I need to plug in a phone line again in order for the receiver to stay active. I have read that this is not neccessary but is a good idea to do so every once in a while to be safe.

Thanks for any advice for what to do without a phone line. I can't see paying $50 bucks a month for a phone line.

Yes you do need to connect to land line for the original activation.

Only problem with not being connected is when software updates come.Then you need a phone line connection.

So after the first activation you can go without a landline.

The 1st day my hi-def H20 box was activated, a couple hours later in the day I received an update successfully through the dish & I have no phone line except a temp 50' line I keep coiled up behind the tv, which I used to origionally activate it w/ the kitchen phone line. So maybe
certain boxes will let you update from the dish-

My Direct tv DVR records without a phone line attached. Is the new equipment different? Does anyone have experience with the HD DVR? Will it work without a phone line? Is it difficult to aim dish at multiple satillites? Will the HD DVR work with a non HD TV? Thanks
