Only receiving local channels Can't Post

Hi residential experts,
I'm having problems with my Direct TV service. After last night thunderstorm, I seemed to have lost my signals and when I tried to repair the problem, I seemed to have made things worst. Here's the situation. I have a 3 LNB system and can receive local channels but that's it. I only get a signal on Transponders 4, 12, and 20. Could I have the satellite pointed in the wrong direction or what cause only local channels to be viewable? BTW, no the local channels are not from an over the air antenna.

Thanks

How many receivers do you have?
Did you lose electric power during the storm?
If only one try a hard reset of the receiver.

The coax from the dish, disconnect it from the receiver, unplug phone line and electric cord for 5 minutes. Then reconnect everything and power back up the receiver.

What did you do to "fix" the problem.

Did you move the sat dish?

Four receivers in all. One is HD. I think it's just the signal because later today when it was clear and sunny, I was able to get a signal on some of the other transponders. Guess I will have to fine tune it and see what happens. It seems that with the HD LNBs, a storm wipes out my signal and it doesn't come back in for awhile. Still not quite sure why I was able to get the local satellite channels and not the others.

Well after the skies turned cloudy, I am back to only the local channels again and only a signal on transponder 4, 12, and 20.

Do you have a multi-switch or anything between the sat dish and the receivers, that the coax is connected to?
If you have a multi switch try by- pasing it to one receiver and disconnect the others before the muti switch.
You want one single coax line from the sat dish directly to the receiver to see if the multi switch went bad.

Thanks Tank1 for all the your help. After reading several posts, and mostly your replies, I guess it all comes down to getting a better signal because in the daytime with clear skies, the signal comes through. Unfortunately, no matter how much I have tinkered, I can't get the high signal readings you suggest so I will go on Ebay or some other avenue and purchase a signal meter. It's a shame that the company where I sign up charges an $80 fee for this although I'm sure they're getting residuals off of every bill payment. Again, thanks.

Try here before you buy a sat finder. Enter your zip code and gives all the readings you need. Then just use a compass and point the dish if needed.

Once again TANK1, you're the man. Thanks for the all the help. Guess you can say I'm coming to this well until it runs dry, lol. I seem to have gotten the signal to stay, unfortunately, it's nothing like you say the numbers should be. My numbers range from 39 to 92. Talk about your full range of motion but most of the numbers are between 41-63. I have tried moving the dish from side to side, etc. I have the tilt set according to the receiver but that particular site had a different tilt. Of course, I don't think the site has the 3 lnb but individual satellites, etc. I'm at a lost of why I can't seem to get a strong signal.
BTW, got a satellite signal finder anyway and that seemed to have been a waste of my $10. Should have listened, lol. Any suggestions

When you went to the website did you check on all 3 Directv sats ?
Under select satellite- you have 3 Directv - 1 for each sat sat ( 101,110,and 119 degrees )
You must enter information from all 3 and then with all 3 sets of numbers to find the sats. Try getting a strong signal on 101 first that where most of the channels are, then work on 119 next.
Remember you mast that dish is mounted to must be level and plum or you will never get strong signals.

Here is a link to the channels on the 101 sat http://www.lyngsat.com/...s/directvusa101.html

and the 119 http://www.lyngsat.com/...s/directvusa119.html
and 110 http://www.lyngsat.com/...s/directvusa110.html
If you go to a channel from each sat on your tv and then go to sat signal meter it will tell the signal strength of that channel/ sat.
Try one channel from each sat location.

Good luck

Let my know how you make out

Thanks again, TANK1, for all the assistance. Finally got it aim right and with a little touch-up gardening, I was able o get the high 80's thru high 90's. Didn't think the tree growing over the deck was in the line of sight but once the branches had been removed, voilah. Again, thanks.
