Pole mount dish Can't Post

I have Directv service but can only get the reg channels and a couple HD channels in the winter. SO i bought a tripod and im going to buy a pole to raise the dish up high enough to clear the trees, shouldn't need more then a few feet if i already get some channels, right? What i need to know is what does the pole need to be made of eg; aluminum, galvanized....ect? DO I need to ground anything, if so what should i get to ground it ? Thanks

PS i tryed to search but couldnt find anything.

Check the diameter of the pole mount, the new 5 lnb sat dish requires a certain diameter.

Pole must be straight and plum, any leaning will cause problems finding the sats.

Must be secure in the ground and not move when wind hits the sat dish ( storm type winds ).
The sat dish should be grounded ( use a ground rod ).

I didn't install my new 5 lnb sat dish, I paid someone to install it. Without a sat finder it is really , really hard to lock into those 5 sats.
It's not like just aiming a old tv antenna in a certain direction.

Talk to the installers in your area, must will do a site check ( check for a view of sats ) for free.

Re: [TANK1] Pole mount dish [In reply to] Can't Post

Ive had them out here twice and noone will do a custom install. I am planning on installing the pole on my roof, where it currently is, using a heavyduty tripod. I know it has to keep from swaying in the wind. But what type of pole do i need or can i use anthing. I know i can get the satelites, the dish just has to be raised up a few feet. I will also run a grounding wire down to the house ground, like you said. Does it matter that the current setup is not grounded?

Since you going to install on the roof, just remember that is good place for a lightening strike. If you have trees they may get the strike if lightening is a problem. I'm Florida and we get a record number of lightening strikes, so I'm thinking about lightening strikes .

The type of pole doesn't matter. Just check the diameter of the pole so the pole mount will work .

Another thing to consider is ice and snow. Can you get easy access to the dish if ice or snow becomes a problem this winter ? I'm just trying to think ahead of any problems , so you can work them out now.
