Receivers on EBAY? Can't Post

I'm still a cable subscriber, but am looking to move to Direct TV. I see a bunch of Direct TV receivers available on EBay and am wondering if they are useable with new service? I’m assuming I would avoid box rental if I were to pick up some of these boxes.

Any advantages / disadvantages to doing this? I’m guessing the installer won’t install these boxes for free, so I’m thinking I’m going to have to lease for at least a short time.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You can't avoid paying the additional receiver fee for receivers #2-#8 on your bill by buying used receievers off e-bay.

Receivers purchased off e-bay require a new access card ( $20) for each receiver.

Also D* can deny you a new access card if the receiver has unpaid charges ( seller didn't pay his D* bill )

As new D* sub you can get up to 4 new receivers with any installation, so there is no reason to buy them off e-bay.

This time of the year you get the best deal because of the NFL Sunday Ticket promo.
