Honestly, there is so much hooked behind my tv that I don't know what goes in what. My tv is a RCA flat screen 27" and it's hard for me to move it out from the wall to look behind it. I couldn't tell you if the Video cables are hooked to the tv first or home theater surround. Yes, I have turned off the reciever before viewing the dvd and still no picture. Not sure how many inputs my tv have as I said, I would pull it out but it's sitting on an entertainment center and would need some help to push it away from the wall, when I push input on my tv remote this is what appears on the screen "Video", "CMPT", "TV channel 4" (which is a blue screen) and "Frnt", that's all that appears on the screen by pushing input from tv remote and reciever remote. Normally, if I pressed input and then went to video, the movie would come up on the screen. The reciever model I'm using is not what I'm sure about, I'd have to try to find the model in the user guide book, it doesn't have anything in there about a dvd player. The reciever is white with a black bottom, not sure if that helps but I will look for the model number.
