Slight problem. Can't Post

We got our satellite installed today and the tech guy did a great job but I'm having a slight problem. My surround sound works but when I put in a dvd I couldn't figure why I couldn't see the picture. Normally (before we got satellite) I would go to my tv remote and press input and then video then dvd picture would come up on screen but now it's not, when I go to video even with satellite remote all I am seeing is just the channel I'm watching. I can hear the movie from dvd but can't get picture. The guy didn't unplug anything behind my tv, I have tried to figure it out and have so much hooked up back of my tv that I am afraid to get behind there and mess something up, just wondering if anyone could tell me what the problem might be...thanks in advance.

It is hard to help you without really seeing how everything is hooked up but here are a few hints that may help.
Are the video cables connected directly to the tv or do they go to surround first ?

Also are you turning off the D* sat reciever first before viewing the dvd ?

Does the tv have more than one input ( some have inputs 1-5 ) do you need to push input button more than one time to get the correct input ?

What brand, model tv do you have and model D* sat reciever are you using ?

Honestly, there is so much hooked behind my tv that I don't know what goes in what. Crazy My tv is a RCA flat screen 27" and it's hard for me to move it out from the wall to look behind it. I couldn't tell you if the Video cables are hooked to the tv first or home theater surround.
Yes, I have turned off the reciever before viewing the dvd and still no picture. Not sure how many inputs my tv have as I said, I would pull it out but it's sitting on an entertainment center and would need some help to push it away from the wall, when I push input on my tv remote this is what appears on the screen "Video", "CMPT", "TV channel 4" (which is a blue screen) and "Frnt", that's all that appears on the screen by pushing input from tv remote and reciever remote. Normally, if I pressed input and then went to video, the movie would come up on the screen.
The reciever model I'm using is not what I'm sure about, I'd have to try to find the model in the user guide book, it doesn't have anything in there about a dvd player. The reciever is white with a black bottom, not sure if that helps but I will look for the model number.

Could the installer have disconnected the dvd player and connected the D* reciever instead.

This would explain why you get sound and no picture, you can check by following the cables out from the dvd player. See if they are connected. If you can't see, try pulling very gently, to see if they are connected.
