Why does DIRECT-TV keep jacking up their prices? Can't Post

Ive been a customer for 5 years now and its getting ridiculous now my Total Choice Plus package is $45.99 ,last September it was $41.99. Anyone else want to gripe to. Ive tried to talk with them but you get no real good answer from the cutomer service.

Many things are involved

New ownership of Directv.( Costs to buy the company,4 new satellites either set to launch or already in space)

Cost of programming keeps going up.(Fees paid for ESPN,TNT,etc)

3 new call centers added in the USA

Re: [TANK1] Why does DIRECT-TV keep jacking up their prices? [In reply to] Can't Post

Crazy Does Direct TV actually own the satellites that they receive programming from? If they do then maybe that would answer my question? Why is all satellite tv service more expensive than my cable. I do not live in or near any large urban area which increases all pay tv costs. My cable is company is probably one of the least customer friendly in the country , Charter Cable. I would like to switch to a satellite provider but it would cost me another $40.00 a month to get the stations that I actually watch now. As of now I pay $40.00 a month and have 3 TVs connected. The expanded basic from Direct is $60.00 plus $10.00 fore 2 extra receivers. I do not need or want 3/4ths of the 200 stations that Direct TV wants to shove down my throat. No matter how much programming and other frills I still have to pay double what I am paying now to get decent programming from Direct TV. Even Direct's basic package would cost more fore much less programming than I have now. Also with my cable I can get my local stations in HD without a converter box. I have a plasma TV and the difference between digital and analog on the other stations is negligible so for me digital is not worth another $40.00 a month.
My question is if cable can offer the kind of package I have now why can't satellite. Cable has to buy programming as well as maintain there hard connections to every customer and cables strung across the country.
Not happy with pay tv !

Yes Directv owns all their sats and they have one more sat to launch this fall. Directv has no analog channels , they only have digital and HD.

I realize Direct TV has only Digital and HD signals . My complaint is the programming packages they offer. I do not feel that sheer volume of channels makes for a better deal for their customers. As I said before 3/4ths of the channels I would have to pay for I have no use for. I also dislike the fact that I have to pay extra for what is usually a used receiver that has been paid for many times over with the $5.00 a month fee for anything over one receiver. Why do they not offer these receivers for direct sale to the customer? I know that 2 years ago my neighbor bought a Direct TV receiver for $38.00 and paid a monthly fee for one year only. I do not see this being offered now. But even without the rental fee I believe $60.00 a month is way to high. I also believe that digital tv is not all that fantastic. Most of Europe and Australia have a 600p or higher standard digital resolution why not the U.S.? I think the American consumer was ripped off by it's own government with the change to digital.
Thank you for the info.Wink

You're both forgetting the simplest reason: BECAUSE THEY CAN.

Directv had a policy of allowing you buy the receiver, and then charge charge you an additional receiver fee for the second receiver up to eight. A few yrs ago they went to all leased receivers, with you paying a lease fee on the second receiver and any others.

You can buy a HD DVR only one model - HR Pro series 21 is for sale and not leased

http://www.2000networks.com/...p/directvhr21pro.htm

As for the channels - no company cable or sat US or Canadian sells programming ala carte.

The smallest package Directv offers is the Family Package with local channels included for $29.99

This is my problem with satellite services $29.95 plus $10.00 for two extra receivers and I am paying $9.95 plus taxes more fore less than what I am getting from cable. Yes satellite is all digital but as I have said the digital and analog picture on my plasma tv looks pretty much the same . The only big difference is the HD on my local stations which I get free. I do not like my cable company but the way things are now I have few choices. Pay through the nose for sattelite service for 150 channels I will never watch or stick with my cable service. My wife watches many of the cable channels that are not offered on satellite services unless you pay $60.00 plus. I personaly woul rather go back to the antenna and not have to pay money to either cable or satellite.Unimpressed

Sony its depend on the service [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi Sony
How are you
Yes people disappoint because of service charges and much more I can say many them are changing service because of Higher price. So You need not to worry about the charges because day by day the provider plans to keep more channels and company tries to update the channels within 6 months or more. So make sure there will tariff plans for you that it can be an optional.

Choice plus full price is 65.99 a month now you said you been with D-TV for 5 yrs now so, you might of have some sort promotion for upgrading, calling in t0 complaint, ect... with any company when you first sign up you get all the good deals. Once the deals fade away the customer starts to pay full price for the service. Try calling customer care and have them see if our not being charged for any additional service or equipment and check on our bill if there's not any new taxes added.

It's like any product. They will always try to maximize their profits. Once they see there is a large demand they will always jack up their prices. That is business my friend.
