Directv had a policy of allowing you buy the receiver, and then charge charge you an additional receiver fee for the second receiver up to eight. A few yrs ago they went to all leased receivers, with you paying a lease fee on the second receiver and any others.
You can buy a HD DVR only one model - HR Pro series 21 is for sale and not leased
http://www.2000networks.com/...p/directvhr21pro.htm As for the channels - no company cable or sat US or Canadian sells programming ala carte.
The smallest package Directv offers is the Family Package with local channels included for $29.99
http://www.directstartv.com/...l_choice_family.html This is my problem with satellite services $29.95 plus $10.00 for two extra receivers and I am paying $9.95 plus taxes more fore less than what I am getting from cable. Yes satellite is all digital but as I have said the digital and analog picture on my plasma tv looks pretty much the same . The only big difference is the HD on my local stations which I get free. I do not like my cable company but the way things are now I have few choices. Pay through the nose for sattelite service for 150 channels I will never watch or stick with my cable service. My wife watches many of the cable channels that are not offered on satellite services unless you pay $60.00 plus. I personaly woul rather go back to the antenna and not have to pay money to either cable or satellite.
