Wiring/Wire question Can't Post

Is RG6 coax the standard these days or is there something out there that I should consider?

Thanks.

Rg6 is required for sat service, some use the quad shield rg6.

The new hd ( spaceway/mpeg4 ) require compression coax connectors instead of the old crimp on style.

A Directv DVR lets record one show while watching a 2nd show at the same time.
Directv R15 dvr-

Leading Features of the DIRECTV PLUS DVR!
  • Record one program while watching another , even record two programs at the same time!
  • Series Link feature: automatically records the entire series of your favorite shows - click the "Record" button twice for maximum ease in setting Series Link!
  • "Bookmark" specific parts of a recorded show show that you can jump directly to them!
  • Available space indicator
  • Record movies that you want from PPV, but only pay for them if you actually watch them.
  • Set up your own video library!
  • Supports DIRECTV Interactive Features (Mix Channels and DIRECTV Active)
  • Caller ID

Rg6 can be split - BUT you need one like this -
  • Use with any DirecTV satellite system!
  • TOP QUALITY - Recommended for Indoor Use (although they are weatherproofed)
  • All ports are power passing! (only available in top quality splitters)
  • 900-2200MHz

The man who installed the direct tv told me that a spliter wouldn''t. SO you are sying this one will work. Basically there is just one wire runing from the adtic to the tv. I wanted to split it at the tv so i can plug both turners in. Ok just asking for clarrification. Just want to make sure I do this right. thanks for your time

For a DVR you need two cables run from the sat dish to the DVR Receiver.

Why did he only run one cable for a DVR ?

Are you trying to add a non - Directv DVR , a regular dvr connected between the directv receiver and tv ?

Here is a forum for Tivo http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-vb/
they might be able to give you more information.

Honestly I don't know. He said their was a firewall and that he couldn't run the cable down there. Claimed that the cable in the wall was already there. what do I do now? any suggestions?

Re: [procm2] Wiring/Wire question [In reply to] Can't Post

So the installer didn't run any cables to the room in question, he just used the existing cable. So you need two cables to connect the dvr and he didn't give you two cables.

I would call Directv 1-800-730-4742 and complain that the install was not done correctly.

Cable in the wall was proably rg-59 used for cable tv and not rg-6 which is requried for Directv and any sat service.
