adding receivers Can't Post

We are in the process of finishing our basement and have direct tv w/ a 5 lnb. We have two tv's hooked up upstairs. We want to run five lines in the basement but only have three tvs hooked up at a time. There looks like there are a bunch of coax in the basement, one of which is open. How do you wire the basement so that we can ulitmately have five tvs (and receivers) running five different channels at the same time. We also have a tivo and I want to be able to watch a program while recording another. We may also want to do that in the basement. Is that possible and how?

You have 4 coax lines comming off your 5lnb sat dish. You connect all 4 to input side of a multiswitch and have 8 or 16 coax lines on the output side depending on the multiswitch.
You must rg6 coax for the HD box , so the coax in the basement might have to be replaced if it is rg59 the type used for cable tv.

You need a receiver for each tv , so you run a single coax for any non-dvr receiver and dual coax lines for any dvr sat receiver.

Here is a link to the multiswiches, they must be approved for use with the KA/Ku AT9 ( 5 lnb ) sat dish

Thanks. If I understood your reply correctly, the type of cable used for the lines coming out of the the multiswitch are the important ones depending on the type of tv you are using. And, it is probably just better to use rg6 on all if you are going to replace them--in case you eventually have all HD boxes

Okay, and I thought of another question. In one of the rooms, I will have two separate outlets for tvs, one of which will be used at a time. (the other for furniture rearrangement). So, if I want to be ready to move the tv to the other wall, do I have to run separate wires off the multiswitch to the secondary locations, or can I re-split the wires running to the same room?

Cable TV Companies uses rg59 coax cable and some homes have that in the walls.

Sat tv requires rg6 coax cable for both regular and HD sat boxes.

If you are using the Directv KA/ KU AT 9 HD sat dish you need one of those multi switches.
