direct TV high def question Can't Post

I had a fire at my house and the sheetrock is now off the walls. I want to upgrade to high def. once the house is ready and now is a good time to run all wiring between the walls. My questions is how many cables will I need to run from the new 5 LNB dish (which cannot be mounted yet) to my HD+HD DVR receiver? I want to run the cables now and have them come out and mount the dish when the house is ready. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Each Hd dvr needs two coax cables and the other receivers ( hd or sd ) each need one. They must be rg6 and for Hd you need compression connectors on the ends . Use good coax with solid copper conductor

There are 4 coax cables off the 5 lnb sat dish, so you need 2- HD Dvr and 1 for hd receiver, so you have 1 left over. I would the a 2nd coax to location of the hd receiver in case you ever want upgrade to a 2nd HD DVR the cable is there.

If you don't want to mess with compression connectors, just leave cable bare and let the installer do the compression connectors.

I'm not a big fan of wall plates because that is just one more connection (a weak point, possible problem ) instead of pure run of cable from the dish.

Re: [dnau12] direct TV high def question [In reply to] Can't Post

Tank1,

Thanks for the reply. Just so I understand. I plan to put an HR20 in the main viewing room. I plan to put an H20 (maybe later an HR20) in the den. In addition, I have an old standard definition tivo that I plan to put in a 3rd room. I should be able to run all of these off of the single 5 LNB dish correct? I would run all 4 cables leading from the dish to the multi switch in the main room. From the multi switch outputs I would run 2 cables to the main room HR20, 2 cables to the den for the H20 or later HR20 and 2 to the 3rd room tivo correct?
Thanks for your help.

You would need 2 for the HD DVR in the living room and 2 in the den ( 1 for the HD receiver and the second if you upgrade to a HD Dvr later ) and 2 more SD DVR in the 3rd room.

So you would need 6 runs of coax so need a Zinwell WB68 Wide Band 6x8 Multi-Switch

http://www.2000networks.com/...inwell_wb68_6x8.html

You run the 4 coax cables from the 5 lnb sat dish and connect them to the multi-switch. Then you run the 6 coax cables out from the multi-switch to the different rooms.
You must use a multi switch that will work with the new 5 lnb sat dish, like the one in the link.

I would put the multi-switch inside , it just avoids any problems of moisture from rain /snow/ice on the connectors and multi switch. You could put it in a garage/basement /under the house etc
