new to direct tv...need help Can't Post
I have a D 10 receiver and a Zenith tv with 1 set of av jacks. when I hook my dvd through the dtv I get video but no sound (dvd works fine when connected direct to tv) what am I doing wrong?

Two options

1-Connect Directv receiver to the tv with the coax connection.Connect the dvd with the s-video and audio (red and white) rca inputs.

2-Connect Directv receiver with video (yellow) rca input,then add a y-adapter to the audio rca inputs ( use a 1male-2 female y-adapter) and connect the audio rca cables.

Connect the dvd player with the s-video and the audio rca cables into the y-adapter.

The y-adapter just makes one rca (red or white) into two inputs.

Here is alink to a picture of a y-adapter.You find these at radio shack,best buy,walmart,any store that sells a/v cables.

Remember you have push the video button on your remote control to switch from the input with Directv to the input with the dvd connected.
