question about switching direct tv recievers?? Can't Post

hi everyone, i am new and had a few questions , i currently have Direct tv service and have had them for about 5 years now.. I wanted to up graded to a just a regular Hughes reciever from my old reciever and was wondering if the access card will work from my old reciever to my new/used one? As i bought the unit used from a buddy with out a card?
i would appreciate any help i could get thx

You used to be able to transfer an access card from one receiver ( Receiver A ) to another ( receiver B ) by calling Directv. Once you transfer it , the card will not work in the original receiver ( receiver A ).

But I not sure if you can still do it anymore. You can get a new card for the receiver for only $20 if it's worth it to you.
