so i think i screwed up Can't Post

I was under the impression that all I had to do to go from regular sat to HD sat was exchange out the dishes. Reading some of the back posts, it seems like it actually takes alot of calibration and not just sticking it up there? haha is this something I can do or is best to just call someone?

k, so i found the calibration on the tv menu and did some adjusting. I did the elevation, tilt, and azimuth and I still am only getting the steady beep. Tech said it would get louder and faster the closer I got. But, I got nothing, just a steady beeping. Is there something I am missing? I moved that dam dish every which way. Was there something I else I needed to ahve done other than just switching the 2 old cables on to the new dish head unit?

The new HD dish requires you get 5 different sat locations and KA and KU bands.

I doubt anyone can just aim the dish and get the all the sats.

You must use a sat finder meter.

I suggest you pay someone or call Directv and say your old dish was damaged and you want to upgrade to Hd. Can they it install the the new dish for free or what is the best deal.

You are still going to need new Hd receivers to get the HD channels.

i have an HD reciever and I already gave them the s/n and they cleared it and said it was okay to use. Got a guy coming out tomorrow to fix it. I got the receiver from my mom actually. I was talking to her about getting it and she said they had an extra dish and receiver from when they got a free upgrade. So, I took hers and used that. I noticed though that we have 4 receivers in the house and only two cables running from the dish. Does that matter that it splits after it is in the house with the HD?

The new HD dishs have 4 coax lines , if you only have two ( are you sure it's a HD dish ) ?

Here is the new AU 9 Slimeline dish

yeah there are 4 coaxil outs coming from the dish. Guy came out today, I leveled with him and told him I tried doing it myself. he was thankful and said I just saved him alot of trouble. hahaha That was the problem was I still had only the two lines running from the dish. Thanks for the replies. I know it was pretty trivial and basic stuff for you to deal with. But, like I said, I'm new to the whole scene. You were very helpful.

Happy to hear it worked out for you.

Nothing is too trivial or basic to answer, we all can learn nothing new everyday.

If you have any other questions , just ask.
I will be happy to help you.

well as it turns out, the dish i got was no good, plus the alignment for the sat's are totally different for HD and I would need to relocate my dish to the front in order for it to work, so I don't know what to do

Re: [Anyubis] so i think i screwed up [In reply to] Can't Post

I have been a D* sub for ten years and I would never consider cable again.

D* HD channels are amazing and as a big sports fan they give me access to most games of any sport.

They have a new sat getting ready to go live in the next few months, that will start another round of adding new HD channels to the line up.

I live in Florida ( pole mounting might not be an option in many states - too low to see the horizion ) and mounted my dish on a pole about 4 feet high close to the front of the house. I then planted bushs on each side to limit anyone's view from the sides.

Good luck deciding what you want to do.
