Mitsubishi VS-5043	Can't Post

I have a 7 year old 50" Mitsubishi VS-5043 that the color is very distorted on. We've tried adjusting the color,resetting the convergence,etc. The color is very red with white being pink and there is a green halo around many of the images on the screen.In other words,it looks like the color needs to be adjusted but no matter what you do the color is not right.All 3 picture tubes are working. Also,sometimes when you turn it on there is sound but no picture, if you turn it off and then back on the picture comes up.

Sounds like you may have two problems.

Question: Had any kids playing around the TV with magnets or electrical equipment that has a strong magnetic field?

First: Degaus the screen. Best done with a de-gausing coil. If not, you may have some success with a hand held video tape eraser (electric) or with a little less success, a strong magnet.

Start by making a circular motion at the center of the screen, a few inches away (depending on strength of you degausing equipment), continue the circular motion getting increasingly larger circles and continuing well past the edges of the screen.
