A lot of convergence problems are due to a failing STK4277 hybrid IC. The first time my SD-P6085K had a convergence problem, a service tech came out, took one look, said he knew what the problem was, and took the convergence circuit board to the shop. Returned with it about 10 days later. Plugged it in and tweaked the convergence with the remote. No troubleshooting or adjusting. Just collected $425. The problem occurred again a year later so I shelled out the $80 for a service manual and checked the internet. Found that STK4277 failure is a common problem in big screen TVs. Bought one, installed it myself, fixed the problem. Cost for the part was about $25. It is worth a try if you can handle a solder sucker and a soldering iron. I also touched up many solder joints that did not look good-dull and grainy looking. The convergence circuit board is behind the speaker grille which just pops off. With the TV unplugged, remove the screws around the outside of the fiberboard panel. Don't remove any short screws yet. Pull the fiberboard panel forward to expose the circuit board. There are 5 or 6 connectors to be disconnected to get the board out. Unplug them and mark thme with which socket they go back into. You now have the board free of the TV. The STK4277 is mounted on the large heatsink. I had to straighten out the 25 leads on the new one and then bend them up. Need to do this carefully so that you can get them all in the holes on the board. Before soldering, put a thin layer of thermal grease on the IC back and attach the IC to the heatsink then bolt down the heatsink. Solder the pins, check for solder bridges, and reinstall. Touch up the convergence with the remote and you should be back in business. If not, it is time to call for service. Good luck.
