Sony HD 57" picture problems

Have a large screen Sony projection TV. The picture slowly fades to a dark almost impossible to see picture. I turn it off and on and 30 seconds later it starts to fade again. Anyone know whats up? I opened up the back and it has 3 large lenses with plenty of wires everywhere.....can anyone point me in the right direction? what is wrong?
