This is a Venturer RTS 2628V dvd/vhs combo, the laser scanner lights and travels across the sled searching but never finds the disk.The little i know is about tvs nothing about dvds,but this player is free for the fixing so i want to try.
can any one start me in the right direction?

I cannot believe you trusted Ventura.Honestly they are the worst make out of the lot.There is a clear fault with your Dvd reader.You will need to get your money back and invest into a better model.The combos start from 100 quids.I think they do a samsung model which is worth a look and it is stylish too.
Dont try and get the ventura model fixed.The problem will just happen again.
