freeview reception and aerial Can't Post

hi, i've been having some problems getting freeview reception on my tv. cloudy and wet weather used to mean channel 4, dave and the sky channels went offline. i bought a signal booster which helped a bit, but the problem seems much worse now. what i thought was simply a signal strength problem seems to be a hardware problem as even the slightest drop of rain interferes with reception. if it rains i'm loosing nearly all channels now.

can anyone suggest what might be causing this degenerative fault. i'm disabled and absolutely skint so it's not like i can get up there and check things out. i do have a newer aerial in the shed but i can't afford to pay someone to put it up right now. why would water cause the reception to fail anyway?

appreciate any help thanks

what has probably happened is birds have pecked the cover off the connection on the aerial and rain is getting into the cable.
