Cable/Home Theater Hookup Can't Post

I just purchased (online) a 32" LCD TV with one dvi input and component inputs. the the home theater system has an hdmi output (with upconversion on the dvd) and I think the cable box from time warner has dvi and optical toslink audio output. my intention is to put the optical audio into the home theater system (which has the requisite input) and link the dvi from the cable to the tv. I also bought a hdmi to dvi cable. so it looks like I'll have to switch cables when switching between dvd and hd cable.

my question is -- does the dvi really make any difference over component? or should I just link the cable component to the tv and just run the hdmi to dvi from the home theater to the tv permanently?

You could connect the cable box with the dvi cable to the set.

And use the component video to connect the dvd player.

Or buy a dvi switch like this one.

Hi Nathan,

You can try using a HDTV switch with a HDMI to DVI adapter or cable.. I found a switch with 4 HDMI input ports . This allows me to have 2 extra ports left over in case I want to expand later. I think the Playstation 3 has a HDMI and that is coming out soon.
