JVC LT-37E488 Optical Output - useless?	Can't Post

I recently tried hooking my JVC TV to my stereo via the optical output, and was astonished to discover that the optical output is not usable with the TV's digital inputs! I have devices connected to the HDMI 1 and 2 inputs, and according to JVC, I cannot output audio from those sources through the optical or analog (RCA) outputs. I tried both outputs and verified this. What the he'll good is this and why would JVC make such a crap TV?

that is quite common. always check the spec before buying anything.

It is quite common, or it was common for a brief time in the past, while digital audio technology was still being perfected.

What do I look for in the specs that would tell me this, and why would a manufacturer make a TV like this?

I have had 4 other LCD TVs with optical outputs that actually output from digital inputs. The only way I can see that I could have determined this ridiculous lack of capability would have been to have read the entire owner's manual (60 pages).
