New to this... Can't Post

Last spring I purchased a Panasonic HDTV (3D/Plasma). The picture quality is currently at 480p, but the TV should go to 1080p. My cable provider offers "HD" channels, but even those aren't any better! Any ideas on what I can try to do in order to take full advantage on my TV's capabilities??

Do you have the extra cable company equipment (and pay the addition fee) to receive them?

Yes, the converter box is HD capatable, and we have the HD channels.
