Options for OTA HD? Can't Post

I have a hd ready tv but haven't bothered to get a hd receiver til now. Looking around, I see hd receivers going for $300 plus.

On the other hand, I see I can get used directv hd receiver for $100. Supposedly these directv receivers can receive OTA HD. So does this mean I can buy a directv HD receiver, not subsribe to directv, but use the OTA capabilities of the direct reciever for my OTA receiver?

If so, then this seems to be a much cheaper option.

Anyone know if this will work?

Yes you can use an USED Directv hd box for ota only if you want to.

The problem is that alot of earlier boxes had problems picking up weak ota hd signals.

If you find a box go to www.avsforum.com and look under HD Hardware. Then do a search for the model number.

If you buy a NEW Directv sat box you must sign up for a year of service.
