Options for OTA HD?

Can't Post

I have a hd ready tv but haven't bothered to get a hd receiver til now. Looking around, I see hd receivers going for $300 plus. On the other hand, I see I can get used directv hd receiver for $100. Supposedly these directv receivers can receive OTA HD. So does this mean I can buy a directv HD receiver, not subsribe to directv, but use the OTA capabilities of the direct reciever for my OTA receiver? If so, then this seems to be a much cheaper option. Anyone know if this will work?
