If you are looking for a good, big-screen, 3D television with Internet applications built-in, the Vizio XVT3D554SV is an inexpensive option. Good points:
- 2D picture is bright and sharp with good color and deep blacks
- Wide viewing angle of 178 degrees with little distortion at angles
- 3D images have a good amount of depth and minimal ghosting
- Smart dimming does a good job of kicking down brightness as needed
- Lots of image adjustment options
- Sound is decent for typical TV programming, so-so for movies
- Supports both Fast Ethernet wired and 802.11n Wi-Fi (built-in)
- Includes the popular Internet apps like Hulu Plus, Amazon streaming, Netflix, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
- Easy to setup and use
- Uses active shutter 3D glasses
- Fast frame rate, rated as "480Hz" and 4-millisecond response time
- 5 HDMI inputs, VGA input, digital audio out, PC audio input, stereo audio out
- Decent power consumption of 160 watts in use and less than 1 in standby
Bad points
- Standard-def pictures show a little jagginess but not enough to detract
- TruSound (volume equalizer) works great on single stations but not so good when changing across stations
- Remote control is decent but isn't backlit and the text on the buttons is tiny and hard to read
- Display and bezel are glossy reflect ambient light quite a bit
- There is a USB port built-in but it's not enabled
- Heavy, weighing in at 68 pounds without the base and 77 with
- No active shutter glasses ship with the TV - they must be bought separately
