Sony LCD/DVD player question Can't Post

I have a month old Sony Bravia KDL-40S5100 and use an older Hitachi DVD player (S-Video hook-up). After I hooked up the tv, I set it up using a THX optimizer from one of my dvd's and the picture was amazing. A couple of days ago, the picture was not as clear and whites were bleeding. I went to the THX optimizer and it wouldn't work. On the first test to set the contrast, no matter what I do I can't get the 4 white squares, just one white (or grey depending on the settings...) square. I've even gone back to factory settings and it didn't work.
It's either the tv or the dvd player. Unfortunately we don't have another tv or player to test which. I'd guess the tv, since I've never heard of a dvd player having a color problem, but I could be wrong.
If it is the tv, we have a small window and then we're dealing with Sony... Any ideas on what to try?
thanks
