Vivitek DLP bad lamp Can't Post

i just bought a 42" Vivitek DLP tv off a guy for $40. He says that the lamp is bad, and he says he knows because it has happened before. What happens when i turn it on is basically, no sound, no picture, but there are 2 lights that start flashing. One says power and i cant remember what the other says, but yeah they just flash and thats it. I just wanted to see if anyone else thinks that the problem is the lamp before i buy one and it ends up being something else. Thanks for the help!

"The guy" wouldn't lie to you, would he?
You mean Vivitek only made the one 42" DLP? I couldn't find it. I found many DLP "projectors."

No, because it is a mercury vapor lamp, unless you build a power supply with enough voltage to fire the gas.

The identities of the unit and the second lamp. the model number is RP42HD51A apparently the lamp i need it this one..... http://www.planetbulbstore.com/rp42-vivitek.html here is the manual i have found online.... http://tv.manualsonline.com/mdownloads/f998215b-e02a-45b4-d9c0-b31a3d0df575.pdf from reading the manual, it seems that you can get some error code from the sequence of the lights flashing, so when i get the chance i will post the error code, but any help until then would be appreciated. and sorry for the cussing, i did not do that, i think my brother may have been messing around with this while i left it up, but again i appolgize thanks!
