I do not own either, but have looked at them at various stores.

Both types of sets will give you a good HD picture.

I like the dlp better, because the blacks in the picture look closer to black than the lcd. Also the picture looks crisper than the lcd.

You will be watching it everyday so what your eyes tell you, is the best set for you.

I was looking at Sony vs Panasonic last night. The Sony ($2700) was LCD and the Panasonic($3000) was DLP. The DLP TV's are now more expensive than the LCD. Was not too long ago when the LCD was more expensive. But for my tastes, I like the picture on the Panasonic better. Peoples faces seemed to be clearer between the dark and the lights.

I believe that the LCD technology is an inferior technology to DLP in that the response time for the pixels will slow over time. Because of this the Samsung 46" you mentioned would be the best option. However, there are many LCD tvs that are better than others. I am personally a large fan of the Sony GrandWEGA LCDs. They have a fantastic resolution some 1600 pixels across (about 400 more than the average LCD tv). There isn't much you can do to compete with them. Either one of these solutions would be fantastic, just make sure you get a Full time digital/hd source, proper cabling, and a clean power supply.

Bought my Sony Grand Wega LCD 60" about 15 months ago. Stood in front of both LCD & DLP same size and same Hi Def show. Both myself and wife chose the LCD,
but noticed in some scenes the DLP looked better and in others the LCD. AS others have said, you have to decide which looks better to you. If you see the rainbow on DLP-some people do but I could not- go lcd.It is what looks best to you.

DLP, by spec, can simulate a truer black tone vs. an LCD tv. DLP is newer technology, is less complex (possibly more reliable?), the DLP chip is replaceable, the bulb is user replaceable (lcd may be now as well, but wasn't always the case). that being said, however, hitachi makes a darn good tv, and usually has a much higher pricepoint compared to other brands. if you can get a 50 for the price of the samsung 46, hitachi made be the way to go after all
