7000:1 aspect ratio question? Can't Post

I have a Sony 46XBR4 LCD with the aspect ratio at 7000:1

Can someone explain to me what does this mean? I had a friend tell me that a 15,000:1 ratio is better for watching sports. I have no idea what he is talking about. I thought that I have one of the best LCD's on the market. Do I? Some of the ratio's I am seeing out there are really low like 1,200:1 or 1,000:1 I just need this explained to me.

Thank You!!!
The contrast ratio (not aspect) is the difference in the black to white portion of the displayed picture. there is no standard for the measurement of this ratio, so you need to take the ratings with a grain of salt. Just look at the picture on a few sets should tell you which is better. And yes your sony XBR is with out any doubt one of the best LCD's on the market at this time, no matter what some spec's may tell you! Be happy you did good! OH, aspect refers to the size of the picture only.
