I would like to suggest you to go with LG 42LD520.
It is so good for its price.
My friend bought the 42LD520 last week
Reason for his purchase, with young kids who have a tendency at breaking everything (especially the young one who is the primary reason for me buying a new TV after he smashed the previous one to the floor), He wanted a 40" or so TV that wasn't expensive. He was willing to pay up to 3000$ for a new TV but because of the kid factor, decided to go cheaper and wait to see how the LED technology evolve. Also, he’s upgrading from a 32" so the 42" is really appreciated.

What about the difference between LCD and LED technology? How much of a factor will that play in the quality of the TV's?

LCD-Liquid crystal Display
LED-Light Emitting Diodes
In LCD the light comes from a series of lamps at the back of the screen.
