My "720p" tv supports 1080p? why? Can't Post

I own a 52"sony DLP and a 32"polaroid LCD (model 3211TLXB). My sony is a few years old and completly incapable of 1080p resolution. My polaroid is also listed as 720p; however, My xbox 360 is able to create a 1080p picture. The tv lists the xbox resolution as 1080p...awesome picture by the way. The current display setting on my xbox is also set to 1080p (i use the vga cable) Is this really 1080p? why would all the online reviews for my polaroid list the native resolution as 720p? I'm curious because I received a bluray player for christmas and will connect it to my polaroid if the resolution is actually 1080p. I dont visit forums often so please respond to allen.treviranus@yahoo.com\
