Samsung LN46B630 Power Supply Voltages Can't Post

Hi:

The problem with the TV is it runs fine for about 1 to 2 hours before the backlight shuts down. Audio is fine. I've already replaced the inverter board (used from Ebay) so I'm willing to try an Ebay BN44-00265B power supply as a last resort. I've downloaded a service manual, but it only gives a block chart for troubleshooting, no PS schematic or voltage test points. Does anyone have the voltages, specifically the 7 pin CN1803 connector?

Any help appreciated - Thanks!

Measure ALL pins and record readings while set is operating properly.
Remeasure ALL pins again when set stops working.

Make conclusion(s).

Sorry for leaving this question hanging, I've been away. Thanks, jts1957, your approach makes sense. To keep it short, the only thing that changes when the backlight shuts down is the 5v_det on the CN801 ribbon running to the mainboard goes to zero from 5.2v. I've unplugged the tcon while the backlight is still on, it stays on. I've also disconnected the mainboard ribbon from the power supply after the backlight goes off, and it comes on again for about 3 minutes then turns itself off. VCC and LD at the CN803 connector stay at 12.3 and 12.2v even with the backlight off.

I've previously checked all the caps on the power supply for both ESR and capacity, all came out fine. And as mentioned, the inverter has already been swapped for an Ebay unit, the shutdown symptoms didn't change a bit between the two.

Again, any insight is appreciated.

Isn't the PS & Inverter combined? hence 'IP'

Re: [jts1957] Samsung LN46B630 Power Supply Voltages [In reply to] Can't Post

Hi jts, thanks for looking into this for me. Not sure what Samsung means by IP, but there are 2 distinct parts. Maybe they mean combined because there are 2 transformers on the PS which are part of the high voltage backlight tube circuit on the separate inverter board.

I've read a few other Samsung specific posts which also point to a backlight tube problem, and as you've suggested, the mainboard. At this point I'm reluctant to try someone's Ebay take off boards, too many cases where the problem isn't solved and you're stuck with the part. If it is a tube, that pretty much junks this lightly used 4 year old $1000 TV, which might be the best choice anyway. I see 46" Samsungs for just over $400, although I'll wait for another brand because Samsung has seen the last dollar from my wallet for any of their products.

Thanks again for your time!

You make it sound like you're dealing with TWO different boards.

BN44-00265B IS a combined Power Supply & Inverter board.

Unfortunately, the competing brands aren't much better.
