Samsung 2253LW syncmaster monitor problem Can't Post

Hello, I just found this place...

I bought a Samsung 2253LW syncmaster monitor on ebay and it has a problem with a dim top and gets brighter gradually from top to bottom... I have been reading and think this is a bad CCFL on top... I will attempt to fix this but I have no clue on how to open this without damage...

I will post a pic of screen and would like someone to confirm my diagnosis... If I can get a view of a service manual or an explanation of how to open the monitor that would be a big help...

Thank you
Skink

Thin putty knives - gentle prying - start at bottom of either side - work around - leave bottom edge for last.

Check for bulging lytics on power supply/inverter board first.

I usually prove first by "substituting" good bulbs from a monitor with fu*&ed TFT panel.

Some panels allow bulb assemblies to slide out after a single screw is removed. Some you must disassemble the panel. If/When you take apart panel to replace bulb work in a clean area - Most pieces are keyed: they must be facing a certain direction - mark top of each piece (or "flip"each piece over - like turning pages in a book) - Keep panel in SAME ORIENTATION!

Thanks for your input here... I will be getting to this in a week or so... would a bad inverter affect 1 backlight?

Thanks
Skink

Possibly.

Swap bulb connectors around.

For example: if there are two plugs at the top and two plugs at the bottom of the inverter board, you can usually "flip" inverter board over and use opposite connectors. The top inverter then drives the bottom bulbs and vica-versa. You can even unplug all of the bulbs and plug them in one at a time, in turn, making sure each comes on with the same brightness, etc. Of course, since you're trying them singularily they won't "stay" lit.

Hello jts1957 My birth year is 1957...

As suspected it is the top ccfl ad it was obvious that the unscrupulous seller on EBay took me because there is a crack and a scar in the top corner where the ccfl is cracked from a blow... I sent the seller a pic of the screen darkened on top and he denied the state,,, http://myworld.ebay.com/hotprices60 HotPrices60 Stay away from them!!!

I have another question??? Where is a good place to find this ccfl online??? no place I find has this specific part by model # of the unit...

Thanks again... http://www.themoddepot.com/...w-Damaged-ccfl.html"

Most monitors use two on top & two on the bottom. You must know (within 1/16") the length of the bulb. Better a little short than too long. If you have a junker with same screen size - they "might" work. Otherwise, for about $10 (on up) each http://www.lcdparts.net/ should have them.

I think you shouldn't call a Proview a Samsung or vica-versa. Is it one lamp or two? Any bent/dented metal should be fixed at this time.

I have 2 Proviews 1 was a refurb and the other just got zapped in a storm... I opened these and found 2 good ccfl assy from the refurb,,, the lightening one they where both fried... anyway I am going to try to fit these Proview 19" into the 21" Samsung as it will be better than no backlight,,, I think... Thanks for the clues...

That might be a bit TOO short.

It was but to get my HDTV back I used it...

I now have a postage stamp size dim spot in the upper left hand corner... Better but I know it's there and that annoys me...

Thanks for your help... I did get a email back from lcdparts.net/ the part is 14.99 I left the housing so that I can still use it with the OEM ccfl...
