Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U picture blacks out Can't Post

Greetings all! Got a question I'm hoping someone can shed some light on. Back in May I purchased a Sharp Aquos LC-46D64U set to replace the piece of crap Zenith projection LCD I'd had for several years. It's a great TV and I absolutely love it. I've only had one small problem with it. Occasionally the picture will go completely black for several seconds and then kick back in. Thing is it only happens when I'm using component input. I've got a Blu-Ray deck thats always been connected by HDMI and it's never displayed that problem. It used to happen when I was watching TV back when I had my cable box hooked up with component cables, but a couple of months ago I switched that to HDMI also and it hasn't happened since. Now the only the thing connected with component is my XBox 360 and that's the only place this problem still occurs. And it's very frustrating when you're in the middle of a gun fight or getting ready to pass to a wide receiver and everything goes dark! I'd switch my 360 connection also but I have an older console that doesn't support HDMI so I'm kind of stuck unless I buy a whole new system. Has anyone experienced anything similar or have an idea what the problem might be? Any insights are appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Hi, I know this post is a bit old, but maybe I can help with some people who are having dilemma with their broken TV. I am a tv repair specialist (electronics professional), in Richmond VA.

Hope this would still help other people experiencing the same issue..

"Manufacturer helpline and ask them how to diagnose the problem and what a repair...".

There are a number of things that may be occurring. If it happens repeatedly, then chances are that a loose connection or poor weld is becoming detached when the TV heats up. The motherboard in the TV is likely the culprit. If the TV is under warranty, have it repaired. Otherwise, call the manufacturer helpline and ask them how to diagnose the problem and what a repair is likely to cost. You can also call a local TV repair shop for an idea of what is going on and what it would cost to repair. The other possibility is the XBox, especially if the TV is fine otherwise. The video card may be fried. Test the XBox on another TV. Check the cables too to ensure they are not loose or corroded...For more information about that.. you can contact me :)) I am very much willing to help :))

Holy carp!

You mean for forty-ish years I've been soldering joints when I should have been welding them instead?

And all those years I've been troubleshooting and repairing units on my own when I could have been obtaining the answers from the manufacturers. DAMN!
