how to remove the base from lg lcd tv???

i have a lg 42lb1dr lcd flat screen tv. saturday night, i mounted the wall hanger and tried to hang the tv on the wall. however, i could not remove the entire stand. the base came off easily with a couple of screws but, the square silver "box" shaped item which sits between the bottom of the screen and the flat base does not come off. therefore, the tv does not have a clean rectangle look while hanging on the wall. it have the three sides then the bottom side has this silver box hanging off of it.
lg wont help due to some kind of liability issue??? best buy hasnt a clue and they directed me here.
