HD Signal Can't Post

I'm hoping someone can give me an accurate answer because every time I ask this question at Best Buy or Circuit City I get a different answer. I have a Panasonic 42" EDTV Plasma. DVD's look beautiful on it. I am feeding it DirecTV via a standard RCA satellite receiver. The picture at times looks okay, but most of the time it's blotchy. Since I don't have a component output on my satellite receiver, I'm using the S-video connection. My question is this: If I purchase a DirecTV HD satellite receiver, will I see any difference on my EDTV monitor? I'm not expecting HD, but maybe something that would compare with a DVD. Thanks for any help.

If you pump an HD signal through your set, you'll see a HUGE difference. I have a Samsung EDTV Plasma and a Samsung DirecTV HD receiver, and the HD signals are stunning. The difference between a not HD signal and HD signal, even on an EDTV set, are'nt even comparable....

First let me say you got a great plasma. Satellite signal is compressed and dosent always look so good. Second on the panasonics use the rca they for some reason dont look as good using svideo--try both see what looks better. Hd signals will look great on your plasma. only 10% picture reduction for a true hd plasma.

MOSTIN!> Yes HDTV receiver will definitely changed your viewing pleasure due to the COMPONENT OUTPUT. forget S-VIDEO. You will do it's best on COMPONENT OUTPUT.

Actually, if you've got a new plasma, one of the digital connectors (DVI, HDMI, Firewire) will be best...If I remember correctly, the new Panasonics have HDMI connectors...That's going to be an even better picture than composite for HD signal (though composite is definitely nice)
