1) Are you using the remote that was supplied with the set when the set was purchased?
2) If "Original" remote, Did this remote ever work this set? Is this remote capable of working other products? (Function must be TV to work TV).
3) If "Universal" remote, Did this remote ever work this set? (Function must be TV to work TV).
4) Batteries?

Since this is a hospitality / professional unit, one or more of the hospitality menu settings could be wrong.

I bought the tv at a yard sale and that was the remote which came with it. It used to work before I traveled, when I came back my room mate said she accessed the menu and she can't remember what exactly she pressed and since then we could not get it to work. How Can i access the menu without the remote?

This is a commercial/hospitality (Hotel/Motel/Hospital) TV. Have you read through the info at this previously supplied site? http://safemanuals.com/user-guide-instructions-owner-manual/PHILIPS/26HF7874-10-_D

hello sela1013
well the guy just helped you by telling you to press the TV button on your remote...
if this is not working and you want to access the menu there must be a button called MENU on the TV set or it may be labeled as some different words like FUNCTIONS or MAIN or etc etc...
search for that it must be there...

Some people just don't want to read:

[quote="jts1957"]
...3) If "Universal" remote, Did this remote ever work this set? (Function must be (set to) TV to work (the) TV). ...

[quote="sela1013"]
... menu from the button at the side of the tv the response I get is "not Available"...

They have obviously found a "menu" button!

It helps to read everything that everybody's said (in their entirety).
